
CEFAC Journal was created in 1999 by PHDs Irene Queiroz Marchesan e Jaime Luiz Zorzi, directors of CEFAC- SAÚDE E EDUCAÇÃO. The materialization of this idea occurred in the celebration of CEFAC 15th anniversary. It was possible only because of the Speech Language Pathology believers and the people that produce and publicize knowledge. One of them is Dr. Vicente José Assêncio-Ferreira, the biggest encouraging of the Journal.
CEFAC Journal is still young, but in these years, passed through a meaningful maturity and big changes looking forward its scientific growth. In the first three years the publications were half-yearly. In 2002 the publication became four-monthly and from 2003 on it became trimestrial. In 2010 it became bi-monthly. This increase in periodicity tries to endorse the evaluation criteria of CAPES to the composition of Qualis, as new indexations to a greater visibility of the scientific production published in Revista CEFAC.
In 2004 the job of Scientific Editor (Irene Marchesan) was assumed by Dr. Katia Nemr. New directing was established to consider the strict indexations standards. For that, in volume 6 (all the 4 numbers) were implanted form and content modifications, solidifying the journal as one of the most important mean of scientific disclosures in Speech Language Pathology. In 2006 two indexations were reached: BASE DE DADOS LILACS – LITERATURA LATINO-AMERICANA E DO CARIBE EM CIÊNCIAS DA SAÚDE E COLEÇÃO SCIELO BRASIL.
From issue 9 number 2 on (April/July, 2007), Dr Ana Lúcia de Magalhães Leal Chiappetta assumed the job of Scientific Editor. We invested in the following areas: editorial management, rules elaboration and editorial policy implementation. We searched the effective involvement of the Speech Language Pathologists that work in the areas, with scientific productions from different institutions and the articles scientific merit.
In 2009 Dr Esther Mandelbaum Gonçalves Bianchini becomes the Scientific Editor from issue 11 supplement 2. Nowadays the journal is being prepared for new indexations, revitalize its website and study in details the new evaluation system of Qualis-Capes. In issue 11 number 3 (July/September, 2009), following the present tendency, the journal starts to present the articles according to the work category. So, the index starts to obey the following order: Original Articles, Literature Review Articles, Special Articles, Case Report Articles, Opinion Texts and Letter to the Editor, according to the material received and revised by the Editorial Board.
Nowadays, each number has 20 scientific articles organized by production types in all the journal areas: Language, Orofacial Motricity, Audiology, Voice, Public Health Education and kindred areas. The articles are accepted in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Since 2005 the journal is available on-line, being the first with free access. And always improving, articles are being sent from all over the world for our Editorial Board.
The Editorial Board of Revista CEFAC is made of an honorable group of professionals representing all the Brazilian states and from all over the world, too. The publication sponsor is CEFAC-SAÚDE E EDUCAÇÃO, whose directors keep the compromise of contributing with the consolidation of Speech Language Pathology as a science. The tireless and ethical work of the Editorial Board tries to build a quality journal that is becoming a valuable communication and scientific divulgation instrument in Speech Language Pathology in Brazil and, gradually, worldwide.
